Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our decentralised energy recovery ventilation systems, installation process, maintenance, and product range.

Decentralised ERV systems are single-room ventilation units that are installed directly into an exterior wall, eliminating the need for central ductwork entirely. Each unit handles supply and exhaust air independently, recovering heat from outgoing stale air and transferring it to incoming fresh air. This approach allows precise room-by-room climate control and is significantly simpler to install than traditional centralised systems with extensive duct networks.

Our units use a regenerative ceramic heat exchanger that alternates between absorbing heat from outgoing air and releasing it into incoming fresh air. The dense ceramic core has an exceptionally high thermal mass, allowing it to store and transfer energy with minimal loss. This counter-flow process achieves up to 97% heat recovery efficiency, meaning nearly all the thermal energy from exhaust air is recaptured and used to pre-condition the fresh supply air.

Both systems have their place, but decentralised ventilation offers clear advantages for retrofits and renovations. Centralised systems require extensive ductwork routed through walls, ceilings, and floors — which is costly, disruptive, and often impractical in existing buildings. Decentralised units need only a single wall penetration per room, install in hours rather than days, and give you independent control over each space. For new construction, centralised systems can work well, but decentralised is the superior choice when simplicity, speed, and flexibility matter.

A typical installation takes just 1 to 2 hours per unit. The process involves core-drilling a single hole through the exterior wall, mounting the unit, and connecting it to power. No ductwork, no suspended ceilings, and no major structural work is required. This makes decentralised ERV ideal for occupied buildings where minimal disruption is essential.

Maintenance is straightforward and minimal. Filters should be replaced every 6 to 12 months depending on the environment and air quality. The ceramic heat exchanger core is self-cleaning through its reversing airflow cycle and is designed to last the lifetime of the unit. We also offer a FilterKlub subscription service that delivers replacement filters directly to your door on schedule, so you never have to think about it.

All Din Ventilation products carry CE marking for European conformity, ErP Lot 6 certification for eco-design compliance, CB scheme certification for international electrical safety, and RoHS compliance confirming they are free from hazardous substances. These certifications ensure our products meet the highest European and international standards for safety, energy performance, and environmental responsibility.

The right system depends on your building type and application. For residential homes and apartments, the AirPro V2.0 is our most popular choice — whisper-quiet at just 12 dB(A) with a sleek Scandinavian design. For schools and classrooms, the AirSchool range is purpose-built for high-occupancy spaces with CO₂-controlled ventilation. For commercial buildings, offices, and hotels, the AirCeil series offers high airflow capacity with BMS integration. Contact us for a free consultation to find the perfect match.

We welcome qualified HVAC professionals and distributors to join our growing European network. The process starts with an application through our website, followed by product training provided by our technical team. Certified installers gain access to dealer pricing, marketing materials, and dedicated technical support. Visit our installers page at /installers to learn more and submit your application.

Din Ventilation delivers across Europe from our base in Copenhagen, Denmark. We have an established and growing dealer network spanning Scandinavia, the UK, Germany, the Benelux region, and beyond. Whether you need a single unit or a container load for a large project, we handle logistics and can deliver to virtually any European destination.

Opening windows for ventilation means losing nearly 100% of the thermal energy in the air you expel — your heating system must work overtime to compensate. With up to 97% heat recovery, our ERV units retain almost all that energy, dramatically reducing heating costs. In a typical European climate, this can translate to significant annual savings on energy bills while maintaining consistently fresh, filtered air without draughts or noise.

Yes — decentralised ERV is specifically ideal for retrofits and existing buildings. Each unit requires only a single core-drilled hole through an exterior wall (typically 160-200 mm diameter) and a standard electrical connection. There is no need for ductwork, false ceilings, or major construction work. This makes it practical to upgrade ventilation in occupied homes, apartments, schools, and offices with minimal disruption to daily life.

Our AirPro V2.0 operates at just 12 dB(A) on its lowest setting — quieter than a whisper and virtually inaudible in a normal room. Even at higher fan speeds, our units are engineered with sound-dampening technology to remain unobtrusive. The AirSchool and AirCeil ranges are similarly designed for low noise operation, making them suitable for bedrooms, classrooms, and offices where silence matters.
